Everything looks great! She gained another pound. She weighs 50.5 lbs. now! She is a celebrity at the vet office nowadays. Everyone has to come see her and give her hugs when she comes in. :) She hasn't had any accidents in the house or her crate for almost 2 weeks now.Robin llMonday Sep 18, 2007ll Phoenix was spayed yesterday. She has a bigger incision than normal because the vet had a hard time finding her ovaries. Guess they were really up in there. She slept all evening once she got home. She's still taking it easy today. She has gained another pound since last week. All in all she's doing great! Here is a pic of her sitting at my feet as I type this. :)
![]() llMonday Sep 10, 2007ll Had Phoenix at the vet today for her booster shots. She's put on another 4 lbs. She weighs 47.3 now! She is scheduled to be spayed on the 18th. llWednesday Sep 5, 2007ll Look Ma, no ribs! Phoenix's bones are now hidden beneath healthy muscle now! She continues to thrive, loves chewing on her sterilized bone, loves running and playing outside, and loves taking naps on the couch with me. And boy, she loves when it's time to eat, now that food can actually stay with her and give her that satisfied full tummy feeling. Today's pics posted above and below. ![]() llPictures taken Saturday Aug 25, 2007ll ![]() ![]() ![]() llFriday Aug 24, 2007ll When we first picked up Phoenix in Columbus on Aug. 12 she weighed 33 lbs. When we got her to the vet the next day, she weighed 30.5 lbs. Today she weighed........ We can start trying to switch her over to regular food, it will need to be moistened so the powder can be mixed in, but the vet said she is looking great!!!!!! From GOBR Staff: llThursday Aug 23, 2007ll Phoenix goes for a check up at the vet Friday; hopefully she has gained some weight. She is on ID now, and after seeing the vet, will see if she still needs to remain on it. The powder may cost more than $89.00 a month. She has already gone thru the 4 oz. and it has been a week. So, once she gains enough weight that she doesn't need 3 meals a day, just 2, I think she will use about $110.00 worth of powder a month. I though the powder would last longer, or hoped it would anyway.... Robin llSunday Aug 19, 2007ll She is doing ok, poop still looks great, she tried to play with a ball today, she's been sleeping mostly but is slowly improving. She doesn't like being left in the room alone as you can tell in the one pic. :) Robin ![]() ![]() llSaturday Aug 18, 2007ll Phoenix coughed all night and brought up little bits of phlem, so back we go to see if she got kennel cough.... She still has a great appetite and beautiful poop! Robin llSaturday Aug 18, 2007 - later the same dayll Back from vet, it's kennel cough, we have antibiotics. She's not coughing as much as she did last night. So hopefully with a couple rounds of antibiotics she and I will sleep better tonight llFriday Aug 17, 2007ll Well, Phoenix is home with us. After many tests and trials we think we have a diagnosis. It is "Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency" (EPI) She doesn't produce the enzyme's needed to digest fats, carbs and proteins. What this means is she most likely wasn't starved on purpose like we thought, this is what happens when a dog has this condition. There is a powder that you put on the food (a bland diet, prescription for right now) that gives them this missing enzyme. Her poop is so much better now and she has gained 4 lbs. This medicine will have to be given to her for the rest of her life. She has to have 1 1/2 tsp. put on her food, 3 meals a day. The cheapest we could find this powder is $89.00 for an 8 oz. bottle, which will last about a month. So....we want everyone's input on this. Tom and I have purchased the first month's supply, we have discussed this with Rachel and we think we should at least give her a chance to find a forever home, however, is someone going to want to adopt a dog that will cost over $1000.00 a year just for this medicine? GOBR surely can't afford to pay for her medicine once she's adopted. Also, we feel a timeline should be set. If we have her for months trying to find an adopter, how many dogs could we have helped in the meantime. I know this is hard to hear, and it breaks my heart, but it is reality. Her vet bill for the week will be over $700.00 when all is said and done. We are looking at seeing how she is in a month, if anyone will have interest, etc. We would like everyone's opinion, and we will surely weigh everything before making any decisions. So, ideas and thoughts are asked for and appreciated. Took these pics tonight. Thanks. She is the skinniest I've personally ever come across. She has horrible diarrhea, thinner than water, (didn't go in the van though) has a great temperament so far. We will be taking shifts with her so we can let her out often and feed her small meals. I will be working split shifts for the next week to try not to leave her alone too long. And we are keeping her from any play interaction with the others so she doesn't get hurt until she is stronger. please pray that this girl starts getting better...... ![]() ![]() Now who could not love a face like this ?
