Welcome to the
Adoption Application

Your answers to the questions on the next page will help us determine the best homes for our Rescue Boxers, and the best Rescue Boxer for your Family. By applying for the adoption of a Rescue Boxer from GOBR, you hereby give your Veterinarian(s) and other references permission to disclose information to GOBR.

It may help if you review all questions in the application before you begin completing it. If there is something you do not have the answer for at your fingertips, please find that information, such as your Vet's address and phone number, before completing the application.

We ask that you please contact those persons that you list as personal references, as well as your veterinarian office(s), and tell them a volunteer with GO Boxer Rescue, Inc. (GOBR) will be contacting them. Please advise these persons that they have your permission to release information to GOBR.

GOBR's current adoption donation is $275.00, which aids in the cost of veterinary care, including but not limited to: Routine physical examination, Immunizations (including Rabies, DHLPP and Bordatella), Fecal check and treatment (if needed), Heartworm test, Heartworm preventative, Spay/Neuter, and any other medical needs as deemed necessary by a licensed Veterinarian.

GO Boxer Rescue, Inc. (GOBR) would just like to mention a few things before you fill out your application to help you better understand and decide if a Rescue Boxer is right for your family.

  • Our foster dogs are cared for in loving foster homes all over the state of Ohio. We usually have limited to no background on our dogs since many are rescued from animal shelters. Many also come into Rescue due to divorce or their owners moving to places they cannot have a dog. This does not mean that the dogs are bad dogs by any means though. We do temperament test them as thoroughly as we possibly can though while they are staying in foster care. We can get a good evaluation of how they are with other animals and children and their particular needs and possibly problems. If we detect any human aggression in a dog we do not place it in an adoptive home.
  • Some of the rescues experience separation anxiety because they are scared and nervous from being abandoned by their original families, however this can normally be worked through while in foster care and in their new home with their adoptive family. They need a lot of love, attention and obedience training (manners) goes a long way in helping.
  • Most of our Rescue Boxers are house trained before coming into rescue. For those that are not we do work towards this goal while in the foster home as well. Sometimes though when a dog moves from one home to the next, even the best house trained dog may have an accident or two until they learn what door to go to and how to tell you they want to go out, as well as you learning how to read their way of telling you they need to go potty.
  • ALL dogs need obedience training. The Boxers coming into Rescue have varying degrees of manners/training, but training is something that needs to be reinforced constantly, just the same as with our Human children, and it is a wonderful bonding experience between the owner and dog. Boxers are highly energetic but extremely intelligent dogs, thus they do very well with training.
  • GOBR also recommends crate training. We realize that many people who have never had experience with crating a dog while they are away from home are unsure about this practice or may even consider it as cruel. Actually it gives your dog their own "save haven" or their own private space, a place they can go to and rest. It is like having their own bedroom to retreat to. Crating while away from home helps protect the dog, your belongings, and your home. We will be happy to answer questions on this practice and provide further information as well.
  • When you adopt a Rescue from GOBR it has been examined by a veterinarian, is current on immunizations and rabies vaccination, has been fecal tested and treated if needed, has been tested for Heartworms and started on preventative, and has been spayed or neutered. If a dog comes into GOBR with a broken leg or other injury from being hit by a car and so on we also take care of these needs.
  • The average age of a dog in Rescue is one to three years of age, but we do get in older ones that make fantastic companions as they are more settled, and normally better mannered. We rarely get in very young pups as normally a dog is six to nine months old before its owners realize they really do not have the time to properly care for and/or train their new dog.
  • Rescues do not come with registration papers. Our rescues are meant to be loving pets and family members. If you decide you'd like to enter your Rescue in obedience or agility trials and so on, you can do these without being AKC Registered. You can apply for an ILP from AKC for an unregistered Boxer as well.
  • Remember, you can't choose that perfect family member just by looking at a picture on the website. You need to consider the dog's personality, temperament, age, how well they do with other animals and/or children, and fit into your Family's lifestyle.. GOBR will do it's best to help you find the right dog to be your newest Family member.
  • All applications are reviewed by our Application Processing Committee (APC). A GOBR Volunteer will then check the references (Please remember that a Personal Reference should not be a Family Member.) and contact you to schedule a home visit with you and all members of your Family or household, including other pets. This helps us to help you find the right new companion and family member. As we are all Volunteers with Families, Jobs and so on of our own it normally takes approximately two weeks for an application to be completely processed. If you have not been contacted to schedule your home visit at the end of two weeks please go to our Contact page in order to contact a member of the APC or the Director.
  • Thank you for your interest in Boxer Rescue from GO Boxer Rescue, Inc. and the many Boxers who are depending on us to help them find great new forever loving homes.
